In case I don't get a chance to post tomorrow, a very happy birthday to
Now for everything else that's going on. ( My lengthy rambling ensues... )
And....I didn't mean to write a book. That's what happens when I skip a few days. I'll have access to Mom's computer while I'm there, so will be checking LJ stuff and e-mail, and may even make a post along the way. G'night everybody.

My NL boys are going home for the winter. It started to hit me around the 6th or 7th inning that this was really happening, and yes, I shed some tears along the way before just going numb. One of the few bright spots tonight was Albert singling in Julio (who drew a walk as a pinch hitter and then stole second). Too bad it was our only run. Vicente Padilla shut our hitters down, and our pitchers didn't do the same to the Dodgers. So that's that.
Now I have to wait 4-1/2 months to see my two favorite baseball boyfriends again. Oh sure, I can dig around on line and find some updates on them, since they both do charity work. Albert's stuff will be easy to find -- Julio's not so much, but hopefully his foundation's website will be updated during the offseason. Unfortunately, it's not the same as seeing them out there on the field. And 4-1/2 months is a long fucking time. :::major sadface:::

Last night's baseball outing with my family didn't happen because there was a good-sized T-storm moving through when we made our decision around 5:00, with a HUGE area of rain headed straight towards us. Rather than sit on metal bleachers in drizzle (with a 2-month-old baby who was being super fussy yesterday), we decided we'd wait until next summer's visit for a Tourists game. Unfortunately (thus the "waaahh" tag), the big rain petered out about an hour away, and it wasn't half bad out by game time, just cloudy and damp (which my sister and her family are used to, as they live in Portland, Oregon). Too late, though...as it would have taken them probably an hour to get things together and drive to Asheville. I felt badly for being so alarmist about the pending weather when I talked to my brother-in-law (although really, who knew the rain would break up?) and tried to call to apologize for that but ended up leaving a message. If all goes well I may get to see them early in the week for a family cookout before they head back to Oregon. :::crosses fingers:::
Anyway, instead of live baseball I flipped back and forth between the Red Sox and Cardinals games all evening. The short of it? Yay for wins, both a rain-delayed win at Fenway and a walkoff win in St. Louis (thanks to #41 from Albert!). And Julio, who had been in a slump lately, seems to be coming out of it. He had a couple of hits last night and, by the way, he also made a webgemmesque catch-roll-throw from his knees from pretty far out between first and second that had the announcers hollering.
Off to the races here, but I must first wish a very Happy Birthday to
Later...

Incidentally, last night Albert showed his softer side as he rushed to the aid of a fan who attempted to grab a foul ball along the first base line and ended up doing a face plant onto the field, bloodying his face and bending his neck at an awkward angle. He tried to get up, but Albert helped ease him back to the ground, and he remained there, talking to him and holding his neck steady all the way until a cervical collar was applied. He even helped lift him onto the stretcher so the medics could take him to the hospital (turned out he was bruised up but nothing worse, fortunately). To top it off, the fan was there with his 21-year-old son, who has Down syndrome (Albert and his wife run a foundation that helps Down syndrome folks, as they have a daughter who is so afflicted), and not only did Albert go over and soothe the young man, he also made sure that he got a souvenir ball. Every time I think Albert can't be any more awesome, he proves me wrong.
Laundry awaits, so that's it for the time being.

Stop what you're doing RIGHT NOW and screencap your desktop. (If you're reading this and haven't yet done it, SHAME ON YOU.) You can edit it a bit, but only if you need to scratch out a name or something.
This is my very first screencap, as I'm just learning how. Thank you, Windows Vista, for providing a "snipping tool" program that came with instructions, because at first the "print screen" method yielded no results (I've got it now...I was missing a step). I'm posting this in the small format because I'm too lazy at the moment to sit down and learn how to use Tinypic. Soon, soon, soon. And I'll be posting another entry later, but couldn't resist taking the opportunity to do this meme. So, without further ado, here is my current desktop.

I'm not going to pretend that today was an easy one for me.
That's really about it for now. I have more things to post about over the weekend; I've been saving them up because I've been busy over the last several days. I also need to clean up my tags a bit, and will probably delete a couple more of my Julio icons, but not all of them, because I'm pretty attached to them. So stay tuned.
P.S. On a happier note, Albert hit two HR tonight, bringing his season total to 34 and his RBI total to 89. I guess he had a slow time of it during the All-Star festivities because he was saving up to do that. :::smile:::

Holy fucking shit...Albert has just hit his second HR of the night and so far has 3 RBIs. This brings him to 30 HR and 77 RBIs on the season.

Attempting to break my string of failhattery where posting is concerned, I’m checking in from work during one of my office’s traditionally quiet Wednesday afternoons (quiet because most of our docs are in classes, and therefore the workload is diminished).
( Baseball bad, baseball good... )
( Other stuff... )
Well, I’ve rambled on long enough. Back to work here.
ETA: Doing some paperwork here, and we have a newborn baby in the practice named...Jacoby! Now I'm wondering if his parents are Red Sox fans. :D

Okay, back to work before the folks in the cube farm notice that I'm playing rather than working. Hugs to everyone on my f-list!

Speaking of elevation, my new default icon, snagged from a picture in the local paper, is of the view from Mount Mitchell, which is not far from me and is the highest peak in the Eastern US, which is not to say that there aren't plenty of similar views all over the North Carolina mountains on clear days. I have a habit of counting ridgelines whenever I see a good mountain vista. I see 8 in this picture, but in the original (uncropped) picture there are 12 by my count. If anyone is interested I'll be glad to link the picture, providing I can still find it on the website.
For my f-list: Plenty of rumbling and resentment going on around the office about the details of the meeting last night, which were incomplete when I posted them. I'll share more when I get a chance.
Finally, a very happy birthday to my beloved Jose Alberto Pujols Alcantara, who turns 29 today. Smooches to the big guy!
Back to work. More later. Hope everyone is having a fabulous day.

1. Rockies over Marlins 18-17 last night, winning on a walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth. Awesome!
2. My NL favorite, Prince Albert, now has reached 300 home runs, the fifth youngest player to do so. You go, big guy!. I'm waiting on 400, 500 and hopefully 600 and beyond.
In other news, my inner LJ icon monster has been unleashed. Although I've taken a few for future use, mostly I've been making my own. I stayed up until 4:00 this morning playing with them. I'm thinking of getting some sort of image editing program beyond the very meager stuff that came with my computer (ideas on what is good and inexpensive would be very welcome). I'm also considering upgrading to a Paid Account so I can have more icons in my active file. Thoughts from Paid Account folks? Is it worth it?
Gotta run and grab some food pronto before the game starts. Hugs to all!

Although everyone may have thought I'm dead, I'm still here. It's just been a long and grueling week. Not bad, just grueling. Where I work, it's "that time of year." It's a medical residency program, and our calendar runs July 1 to June 30, so at the moment we have a bunch of people graduating (with not one but TWO ceremonies), others coming in, with a welcome potluck and a "fun day" for all staff, faculty and residents, etc., etc., etc. After being there several years I have become tired of all the hoopla, so mostly just keep to myself and say my goodbyes and hellos on my own schedule. But that doesn't mean it's not a madhouse right now! :-O
Anyway...as luck would have it I had to miss the meet-and-greet part of the welcome potluck (theme: traditional Southern food), which I actually wanted to attend. My annual squishathon (AKA mammogram) was unfortunately scheduled at the very same time. TMI, I know, but for you younger readers, it WILL eventually happen to you too! I got back to the office in time to grab some leftovers and jump back into my work full blast. Due to taking a long lunch, I wasn't off the clock until 7:00, and then had an unexpected but very nice gabfest with one of our graduating residents. Didn't get home until what I *assumed* would be about the second inning...but to my surprise the game was in rain delay. So here I am, ready to follow an entire game. YAY!
I'm SO looking forward to seeing all the upcoming games on TV. At latest count it looks like 4 of the next 5 will be on TV here (a rare treat), so that rain had jolly well better stay gone from Boston! I'll be especially glad to see the Cardinals, as it's been awhile. I watched them quite a bit last summer. It won't be the same with Big Albert on the DL, though. He's one of my favorites and I wish him a speedy recovery.
With a whole weekend to catch my breath (and do errands, and watch games), my next plan here on LJ is to post the meme that Piney and several others have been circulating lately. And then...my first baseball abbey post. See, all these things take time because I normally try to put some real effort into posts, the better to sound at least somewhat intelligent, LOL. Tonight...I'm just posting on the fly. So this is almost stream of consciousness.
And there you have it...game just started. Back with more later.

Good morning! I didn't go to bed directly after last night's (depressing) game as I planned, but managed to get adequate sleep and still wake up during the 9:00 hour. Not bad for a Sunday morning for this night owl! On tap today: Errands, several of them, and then of course I'll be joining the crowd at Texy's for the game. Hoping for a better outcome today!
So one of my friends posted something in the last day or so that mentioned Albert Pujols (one of my faves around the league) and his kindness towards another player. I admittedly don't always find time to read ALL the baseball news, so this morning I did a Google news search to find out what this was all about. Very sweet of him to show that much concern for the opponent who he unintentionally injured! Puts a thought in my head that I should be watch more Cardinals games (WGN Chicago is part of my cable package, so the Cubs-Cardinals games are generally televised here) so I can enjoy him a little more often. Will have to check this week's TV schedule, seeing as how our boys are out West and I'll only be able to poke my head in on those games right before bed. Anyway, kudos to Prince Albert for his big heart.
P.S. Oh heavens -- I read another couple of articles and learned after the fact that he put not one but TWO Padres on the DL in one game. Poor Al. I read that he only slept for one hour that night because he was so upset. Can't say as I blame him.
Anyway, I'm off to get ready for those errands...
