Yikes -- I haven't posted since the weekend! I really am still alive, and I'm doing FINE, healthwise. Lungs have pretty much cleared, my ankle is only occasionally cranky, and I'm hardly using my cane at all. I am totally busting it at work because my department is VERY far behind and some of the docs are squawking about things that didn't get done, but a) sometimes it's hard to know which fire to put out first and b) if the department is unstaffed and The Powers That Be won't give us a part-timer to make sure that doesn't happen, it's not like we COULD have gotten those things done, right? I worked an hour over tonight, so I get to leave early tomorrow, and thank doG it'll be Friday at last.
This is an extra good thing because I have to go grocery shopping in a bad way (had originally planned to do so tonight, but oh well) and the stores will be jam packed tomorrow night because...we're expecting 2-4 inches of snow early Saturday. Yeah, all my Northern friends can laugh. That's actually a significant amount around here, and it'll be the first storm of the season so everyone is out of practice anyway.
Other than that? Well, I had to show off my newest icon. :::sigh::: I'm glad I'm posting this right before bed, the better to have sweet dreams. Yes, I am pathetic, but I don't care. Two years and counting...I don't think this obsession is going away anytime soon.
I'm getting all rambly here so will stop. Snuggly pillows await.

Has it really been a week since I've posted? I think that's my longest hiatus since I've been on LJ. It's been one of those weeks, though. Just so much going on that I hardly know where to start.
My stomach is rumbling so I will (mercifully) stop writing and go fix dinner, after which it's time to tackle a good-sized backlog of e-mails. Thank goodness for the holiday weekend so I don't have to try to do them all at once!

First, baysbawl bizness: I'm not happy about the breakoff in contract talks with JayBay. That? Is worrisome. ::::clings::: As for My Little Guy, word around the media is that he's working out at the Mets training complex in the Dominican Republic, so it sounds like he may have a new home soon.
( Cut for blathering... )
On a totally different topic, on Wednesday I had a short but sweet visit with my maternal aunt and one of the other cousins in that generation. They flew into Asheville and stayed overnight at my mom's before heading to a "senior generation" cousins' reunion in Nashville for a few days. It was great to see them, as it's been a couple of years and will be a couple more before I see them again at the big family reunion.
Last but certainly not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY (#32) to my cousin Andre', who is currently on a Caribbean cruise that he treated himself to. It's also birthday #38 for my cousin Mark out in California (the classical guitarist who I mentioned here a few months back).
Okay, enough blathering for me. Off to work on e-mails. Hope all my friends have had a lovely weekend! :::waves:::

Okay, enough complaining out of me. Good stuff? Randy Johnson's 300th win! The fact that I'll actually be able to get enough sleep for the next three nights, and it's good sleeping weather! Knowing that sometime in the next few days I'll be an aunt again! Doing a pretty good job of figuring out a task at work that's so new that the procedures haven't even been finalized!
So...not everything is bad. Except that I can't seem to shut up here, so now I will. I promise to post something happier next time around, too.

Posting and running here, as I need to do some computer maintenance before I go to bed. I've been pretty busy since my last entry.
Computer maintenance awaits, so that's all for now.

1. My mom had minor throat surgery yesterday to remove a wayward gland (the parathyroid, in case anyone is interested) that was messing with her blood chemistry. The condition runs in the family and I had the same surgery a couple of years ago, only her case was a bit more complicated than mine so she ended up staying in the hospital overnight. She's home now (with help from her significant other) and is doing just fine.
2. My cousin Danielle lost her job yesterday. She hated working there but hey, in this economy any job will do, especially one with health insurance. She's not sure why they let her go...the reason they gave appeared to be a flimsy excuse. Anyway, she's devastated, so any kind thoughts and good vibes sent her way would be appreciated.
3. My damned ankle is acting up again. You know the drill by now. I'm going to bed in a few minutes with my ibuprofen and a pillow to prop the leg up. Looks like I'll be calling the doc tomorrow to see about getting some blood work done to see what freakin' inflammatory process could be causing this, because I just finished a round of STRONG antibiotics 2-1/2 weeks ago, so surely this is not another infection. :::sigh:::
4. On the bright side, our boys take on those guys from NY tomorrow night on MLBN! Now THAT'S the way I like to end the week :::happy dance:::
That's it for now.

In other news, I've been too busy to post for the last several days, mostly because I'm trying to juggle necessary daily chores with my two classes while still getting enough sleep (with varying results). But things are going just fine, really. I'm *ecstatic* at the arrival of my shipment of CDs a couple of days ago. I'm a tad worried about the health of the family members I've mentioned lately. More on all of the above later, I'm sure. I just wanted to check in and let y'all know that I'm not ignoring you!
Oh happy day! :D :D :D

I haven't updated in awhile, so here are just a couple of things.
I am completely and totally slammed at work. Finally had to ask the remaining coworker in my group if she can help me out tomorrow, because I feel like I'm doing it all. Hopefully with her help we can make a dent in the ridiculous backlog.
Meanwhile, the two of us met with The Boss From Hell (who actually has been rather benign and relaxed lately), and learned two things: First, our two recently retired half-time coworkers are NOT being replaced. Second, our boss is putting us under the care of one of her underlings. I'm not sure what to expect, seeing as how I've heard horror stories about this person...BUT...she and I chatted a couple of times when she first started working there and it turns out we're both New York Italians. This means that we may possibly understand each other culturally -- I'm thinking that some of the stories I've heard could be a simple case of culture clash between her and the sweet little Southern gals who don't "get" Yankees. So we'll see. The transition is supposed to take place in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned.
In other news, Le Cuz sent another group e-mail. He finally got his power back. I'm not sure what happened with camping out at the theater, but most recently he was staying with a friend and apparently spent the entire time watching sports (although he didn't mention baseball, bah humbug). I'm sure he was in hog heaven as a result. He said the school where he teaches will probably resume classes late next week. He also said his cell phone service is completely fucked up, which doesn't surprise me considering how much blowing down of stuff occurred in the area.
More later, as I'm fading fast here. I'll be working somewhat later than usual tomorrow to make up for an appointment I had this afternoon, so will be late for the game...and on that note, GO SOX!

Just wanted to throw this question out there: Is anyone else having a problem where other people's replies to their journal comments don't ping their e-mail account of choice? I'm pretty sure this is the case for me over the last few hours. I just did a test reply to my own comment in my most recent journal entry, and nothing has shown up in my AOL mail yet.
I don't know if LJ is having issues or if somehow my settings got changed, and I can't figure out exactly what needs to be changed if that's the case. So...HELP?
In other news, I got my driver's license renewed this morning (my new picture is utterly horrible), after which work went reasonably smoothly. I'm slowly but surely making a dent in the backlog, and things should ease up temporarily next week. Of course, once the two impeding retirements occur (after the 19th), if The Powers That Be don't replace at least one of them, things will get really crazy.
Speaking of crazy, my boss (you know, the one from hell) answered an e-mail from me today with a wink.... ;) ..... at the end of her sentence. She's even older than me, totally no-nonsense and serious, and I was absolutely baffled when I saw that. It also made me laugh.
Other than that, I've spent the whole evening fooling around on line, mostly Sox-related stuff. I'm too tired to do more than that, and am going to bed very soon. I do think it's time to call Circuit City, who sold me this computer, to see if they can take a look at it and figure out why pages are loading so slowly when I'm on line. Other things on the computer (pictures, documents and such) are fine. The Internet connection is actually where it's supposed to be...the techie at the ISP said it may have something to do with conflicting software, which I don't pretend to know the first thing about, so I suppose I'll take advantage of my 5-year warranty and see if they can help me. I shouldn't be getting DSL speed (at best) with a 5 Mb connection.
Ugh, I'm rambling. Again, if anyone has any ideas about why I'm suddenly not getting e-mails when folks reply to my comments, please let me know.
