Well, whaddya know!

coco hello?
I know I haven't mentioned him in months, but my Google Alerts just informed me that dear Covelli Loyce, wherever he may be hiding out this offseason, is the big 3-0 today.  His injuries took him out of the game quickly in 2009, but here's hoping that his two shoulder surgeries cured what ailed him and he has a terrific 2010 season somewhere.  Silly scrunchy-faced hugs to Coco!

So...

pedey is frustrated

Last night's warm and fuzzy feeling of watching the Cardinals celebrate (a soaking wet Albert, a mischievous Julio spraying champagne everywhere, among other amusing sights) did NOT carry over to witnessing today's division-clinching win by the Yankees at the expense of the Red Sox.  Just sayin'.  Hey, at least the Rangers lost too, so our Wild Card lead remains the same.  I also didn't much care for the scene later in the afternoon when both Julio and Albert were stranded by a game-ending, game-losing GIDP by Ryan Ludwick.  Just sayin'.

In happier news, my decluttering continued today with a vengeance.  Although I'm absolutely exhausted (probably because I haven't yet ingested enough calories to make up for the energy I expended today), I managed to squeeze one more box of old books into my car to take to recycling, and to the Goodwill bags I added a bunch of drinking glasses that I found wrapped in newspaper in a box.  They're in good condition but definitely not anything I need to keep, especially after finding the "jars with handles" glasses yesterday, which were really cute and sparklingly new -- they even still had the price tags on 'em.  Tomorrow evening my very full car will be cleared out, as I will stop by both the recycling center and Goodwill on my way home, and then the decluttering cycle begins anew.

By the way, today's very small "keep" pile included my paperjournal from my "summer on the road" the year I relocated from NY to NC (a bit odiferous, but ALL paperjournals must stay, I'm sorry -- and a quick glance through the book had me itching to sit down and read it cover to cover).  Also, I found a large bag of REAL silverware.  It's old -- I think it was my grandmother's silver.  It's definitely good quality stuff -- I love the weight and heft of it, and am looking forward to using it in place of my cheap lightweight stuff!

Time for more calories, but before I go, I'm sending happy birthday wishes to [info]queen_dream as well as to [info]redsox_njdevils (wherever she may have gotten to); both of them have birthdays today.  ALSO...a very happy birthday TOMORROW to[info]new_world_smurf (giving the big birthday shoutout a day early just in case I don't make a post tomorrow).  I hope wonderful days are had by all!

And now...salad and shrimp pasta, or something like that.  Cheers!

Aahhhhh, sweet relief!

I've been waiting all damned week for my Saturday morning sleep-in, and I finally got it.  I feel SO much better now.  I've been a slug since I got up but am about to get cracking on a bunch of necessary house chores.  With both my games starting in the 7:00 hour tonight, I have a nice chunk of time available, which is a good thing.

Last night's baseball outing with my family didn't happen because there was a good-sized T-storm moving through when we made our decision around 5:00, with a HUGE area of rain headed straight towards us.  Rather than sit on metal bleachers in drizzle (with a 2-month-old baby who was being super fussy yesterday), we decided we'd wait until next summer's visit for a Tourists game.  Unfortunately (thus the "waaahh" tag), the big rain petered out about an hour away, and it wasn't half bad out by game time, just cloudy and damp (which my sister and her family are used to, as they live in Portland, Oregon).  Too late, though...as it would have taken them probably an hour to get things together and drive to Asheville.  I felt badly for being so alarmist about the pending weather when I talked to my brother-in-law (although really, who knew the rain would break up?) and tried to call to apologize for that but ended up leaving a message.  If all goes well I may get to see them early in the week for a family cookout before they head back to Oregon.  :::crosses fingers:::

Anyway, instead of live baseball I flipped back and forth between the Red Sox and Cardinals games all evening.  The short of it?  Yay for wins, both a rain-delayed win at Fenway and a walkoff win in St. Louis (thanks to #41 from Albert!).  And Julio, who had been in a slump lately, seems to be coming out of it.  He had a couple of hits last night and, by the way, he also made a webgemmesque catch-roll-throw from his knees from pretty far out between first and second that had the announcers hollering.

Off to the races here, but I must first wish a very Happy Birthday to [info]hanachan01 -- hope it's a great one!

coco bad hair day
I've been trying to find time to post all week but have totally failed at that, and unfortunately, right now I'm down for the count.  Stupid female problems.  I thought I was done with all that shit -- it had been four months, but guess what I woke up to this morning?  Ugh.  Along with that came the beginnings of a migraine, but we had a midday staff meeting at work, so like a good employee I dragged myself across town.  I lasted a whopping 1-1/2 hours before concluding that I was in too much pain to concentrate or be effective, so I came home and was a slug for the rest of the day.  Actually, the painful part of the migraine went away pretty quickly once I was in a darkish quiet house, but I was really spaced out from the medications I took to get rid of it, and of course I had told my boss that I was going home and going to bed, so that's where I went, but I probably only slept an hour because by midafternoon a very large area of thunderstorms came through and there was constant rumbling and crashing for about an hour, so I just rested.  I'm still pretty weak and queasy, so this will be a short evening for me.  Thanksfully, I can watch the rest of the Sox game on ESPN.  I have a backlog of things to post about (and e-mails to reply to, as always) but that'll have to wait for a different day.

While I'm at it, a very happy belated birthday to [info]mstieforlife -- hope it was a good one!

Hey folks -- my cousin in NY just sent me the following e-mail:

"I just wanted to know if any of your internet Red Sox friends live in NY and would be interested in tickets to the game next Sunday night at Yankee Stadium. I usually go with my friend who is a Sox fan but he'll be away so I'm not really up to going. The game is Sunday 8/9 at 8:00, Grandstand section 421 row 12. $100 for 3 tickets. Just let me know as soon as you can because if you don't know anyone I have to look for another avenue to sell the tickets."

So...how about it?  Anyone out there interested and able?  Yankees fans as well as Red Sox fans, of course!  Just PM me and I'll put you in touch with her.  I'm advising her to pursue the other avenues as well, so this offer is very much first come, first serve.

Let me know -- thanks!

ETA: Happy belated birthdays to [info]infield_dreams and [info]mary_19.  Somehow I let those get away from me!

Happy Birthday to [info]mcmazzeo!  Hope you have a lovely day!

Other than that, I don't have much to say except I'm glad i have a therapy appointment coming up.  Unfortunately, it's still a week away.  I sort of feel like my bipolar is going into the depressive phase.  It just hasn't been a good week.  Maybe that's all that's going on, but more on that later.  I'm supposed to be working.

Just dropping by to say...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to[info]lissa_ann!!!  Hope it's a really good one for ya!

In other news, although I'm not all the way back to normal (whatever normal is for me), a good night's sleep definitely helped my state of mind.  Too bad I chewed off all my fingernails prior to that sleep, but I don't mind starting over with 'em.

As for baseball matters, Dear Boys, please not to suck again tonight.  Hopefully Commander Kickass will keep all y'all in line.   :)

Just trying to catch up here.  Lots has been going on this week so I'll just touch on a few things.

First, baysbawl bizness: I'm not happy about the breakoff in contract talks with JayBay.  That? Is worrisome.   ::::clings:::   As for My Little Guy, word around the media is that he's working out at the Mets training complex in the Dominican Republic, so it sounds like he may have a new home soon.

Cut for blathering... )

On a totally different topic, on Wednesday I had a short but sweet visit with my maternal aunt and one of the other cousins in that generation.  They flew into Asheville and stayed overnight at my mom's before heading to a "senior generation" cousins' reunion in Nashville for a few days.  It was great to see them, as it's been a couple of years and will be a couple more before I see them again at the big family reunion.

Last but certainly not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY (#32) to my cousin Andre', who is currently on a Caribbean cruise that he treated himself to.  It's also birthday #38 for my cousin Mark out in California (the classical guitarist who I mentioned here a few months back).

Okay, enough blathering for me.  Off to work on e-mails.  Hope all my friends have had a lovely weekend!   :::waves:::
coco hello?

Happy Birthday to you(and many more....)

Here at approximately 2200 feet elevation, Asheville's low temperature this morning was a balmy 5 degrees, the coldest reading in FIVE YEARS.  I'm really not used to this stuff anymore. Apparently tonight will be more of the same.  Oh joy.  The good news is that the temps will moderate after that.

Speaking of elevation, my new default icon, snagged from a picture in the local paper, is of the view from Mount Mitchell, which is not far from me and is the highest peak in the Eastern US, which is not to say that there aren't plenty of similar views all over the North Carolina mountains on clear days.  I have a habit of counting ridgelines whenever I see a good mountain vista.  I see 8 in this picture, but in the original (uncropped) picture there are 12 by my count.  If anyone is interested I'll be glad to link the picture, providing I can still find it on the website.

For my f-list: Plenty of rumbling and resentment going on around the office about the details of the meeting last night, which were incomplete when I posted them.  I'll share more when I get a chance.

Finally, a very happy birthday to my beloved Jose Alberto Pujols Alcantara, who turns 29 today.  Smooches to the big guy!

Back to work.  More later.  Hope everyone is having a fabulous day.

In a post a few months ago I made reference to the unusually large number of November babies on the 2008 Red Sox roster. What I find amazing is that (against rather astronomical odds) three of them were born the same year within four days of each other. This means that as I prepared to go home for Thanksgiving break during my first semester of college, E-6 (11/16), Big Papi (11/18), and our very own Georgia Peach (11/20) had just arrived on this earthly plane. Now those had to be some cute babies!

It's now 11/16 and the BIG 33! birthday marathon has officially begun. Rather than make separate posts over the next few days, I'd like to send great big hugs and happy birthday wishes to all three of these lovely men. :::SMOOCHES:::

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
