Yes, I fail at catching up here on LJ!  I was in a virtual media blackout during my trip -- less than an hour on line the entire time...the second time I asked, my sister said, "Wouldn't you rather hang out?" and I took the hint.  I actually got used to it, and oddly, I'm having trouble getting back into the swing of Internet things.  I've been having rather vicious insomnia, thanks to my jet lag, and I also have a pretty bad cold atm, but I'll attempt a 2009 wrap-up post, or the year-end "first line of the month" meme, or SOMETHING...tonight after I get home.

Yay for three-day weekends!  I can get the sleep I've been craving, maybe tidy up the mess in the house, and...FINALLY get to a post about my awesome trip.  I'll try not to write a book, although there's a lot to tell and many links to provide, as I want to share some of the pretty scenery I saw, and I'm too impatient to wait for my sister to send the pictures she took.

I thought I was working a half day today but it turns out that the office is open all day, so I'd best get going.

My mom and I just got back to her place here in NC after a long and arduous day that began at 3:30 a.m. Oregon time.  A good time was had by all, but right now I'm really tired and have a LOT of e-mails to wade through and various news and sports sites to check, because my trip was a nearly total media holiday and I have no idea what's going on in the world.  So....just letting folks know that I'm back.  I'll return from my hiatus for real tomorrow and will post more about my vacation.  I hope all of you are having a great holiday season so far.

I am officially a chicken with its head cut off. Really.

I'm heading to Portland on Saturday -- leaving in the late afternoon from an airport in upstate South Carolina -- and my mom wants me to go to her place on Friday night "just in case." I'm partially packed but have to put the finishing touches on my efforts after work Friday. I have a meeting that afternoon until 3:00, and fortunately I was able to persuade my boss to let me leave after that, just as long as I made up the time during the rest of the week. So...I've been working 45 minutes over each day and trying to cram in my trip preparations each evening. On top of that, I had to be worked in with my dentist for what turned out to be a nothing, and the only available slot was first thing this morning, so I've been up since 5:00. Needless to say, I'm about to fall over right now, and I'll be heading to bed as soon as I dash off a couple of e-mails that need answering sooner rather than later.

I think I may be asleep before my head hits the pillow tonight.

Sleepwalking through another day...

misc going blank again
I haven't slept well the past two nights -- waking up every couple of hours, which is a problem I've had at times in the past -- so tonight I'll be going to bed very early after taking something to knock myself out. Hopefully that'll do the trick, because at this point I'm quite fried.

There's not all that much going on around here, really. I finished my antibiotics today and my lungs feel just fine. I'm SO glad that I will no longer have to deal with the nasty metallic taste that I've had in my mouth for three weeks (a common side effect of this particular antibiotic).

Work is work. This week's catchup project involves entering laboratory results into charts -- we're a couple of weeks behind on that -- and I've been plugging away at it for about half of each day.

The weather here is fairly yucky at the moment -- wet and chilly -- but it could be worse, of course. I feel sorry for the folks who are getting smacked by the blizzard that's been barreling across the country. On the other hand, I'm jealous of them for the snow days.

That's really about it. Yes, this was an exceptionally boring journal entry! LOL...

Greetings from sunny warm Asheville

It's currently 78 degrees here, but while downtown running errands I spotted orange and purplish-red leaves mixed in with the green, so I know this weather won't last long.

Last night baseball proved to be my VERY short lullaby, as I was out like a light moments after my head hit the pillow, even though the Red Sox game was going on with the volume set at a medium level.  I must have some sort of sixth baseball sense, though, because just as I had awakened at an opportune moment the previous night, this time my eyes flew open in the top of the ninth, and of course what I saw on the TV screen did not make me happy.  Hopefully things will go better, MUCH better, tonight....

That's it for now.  Thanks to a stop at the soul food restaurant near my office, and a messy platter of ribs that took awhile to eat, I'm stuck here until 7:00 tonight, so I have miles to go before I sleep.

Where did September go?

The turn of the calendar page snuck up on me this afternoon at work.  Hard to believe there's a frost advisory for the northern mountains tonight, with 40 predicted for here in Asheville.  The leaves around town are still pretty much green, but the nandina bushes are starting to turn a gorgeous deep red, so fall is here for real.

Over the past couple of days I've been flailing away at multitasking in the kitchen but have done no decluttering.  That will change this evening.  With the Red Sox having clinched (and fielding their B team tonight for the most part), and with the Cardinals blacked out from my MLB.tv because they're playing Cincinnati, I'm going to take the evening off from baseball (at least at the moment that's the plan) and get some other things done.  Who knows, maybe I'll even start catching up (AGAIN) on e-mails and LJ comments.  I've totally been teh failhat where that is concerned lately.

Fun things for the evening when I'm not going through junk in the back room: Grinding coffee beans (morning om nom noms!) and giving my Amazon Wish LIst another listen -- I'm giving myself a belated birthday present with some money that one of my aunts sent me, which will mostly involve CD versions of some beloved old chestnuts that I only have on cassette tapes that have probably been ruined by mold.  The question is...which ones to order?  Decisions, decisions!

If you blink you'll miss me.

coco hello?

Howdy howdy howdy...just stopping by to let folks know that I'm still alive.

Late this afternoon I start working with the professional declutterer for real.  I had a delayed reaction to the cleaning I did over the weekend, probably from tracking dust and mold all over the house, and folks have given me a few extra ideas about keeping that from happening again.  I think my lungs have recovered sufficiently that I'm good to go.  She's supposed to arrive at 5:30, and we'll probably work for at least a couple of hours.  After that, it'll be into the shower for a good scrubbing, and then finally I can have dinner, but I probably won't get much done beyond that.  If I'm really lucky I'll get to reply to my growing pile of LJ comments and PMs.

I don't anticipate getting to watch much baseball, needless to say.  I was lucky enough to have the Cardinals on last night while plowing through a bunch of housework -- Julio had a triple that brought in two runs, then Albert brought him home.  I just LOVE when my boys work in tandem.   :::hearts:::   Hopefully more of the same will occur tonight, as well as a good showing from my Boston boys.  I'll have time to enjoy them all again soon enough.

That's it for now -- I have a bunch of work that I should be doing, so I'd best get to it.

Happy Birthday to [info]mcmazzeo!  Hope you have a lovely day!

Other than that, I don't have much to say except I'm glad i have a therapy appointment coming up.  Unfortunately, it's still a week away.  I sort of feel like my bipolar is going into the depressive phase.  It just hasn't been a good week.  Maybe that's all that's going on, but more on that later.  I'm supposed to be working.

I'm baaaaaack...

Actually got back last night around 8:30 after a wonderful but very exhausting baseball vacation and was so tired that I didn't even boot up the computer.  I spent today being a slug because I have to go back to work tomorrow, so I haven't been terribly productive.  Watched the game until it went into rain delay and was of course greatly enjoying all the Sox awesomeness -- Smoltz doing well, our boys hitting the tar out of the ball, and the extra bonus of having Julio in the lineup with two hits (so far) as well as a stolen base, which makes me very happy because I have to grab every opportunity to see him play before he gets gone (which he almost surely will).

Anyway, there's still much to tell about all the fun I had in HOTlanta, but I do have a pile of e-mails to catch up on and would like to get cracking on those while waiting for the rain delay to end, and whatever happens with tonight's game, I'll still need to get to bed at a reasonable hour so I can deal with work tomorrow.  So...a full-blown vacation summary will have to wait a day or two (sorry, Bethie!).  For now? Just know that it was fabulous!

About time I showed up, huh?

As follow-up to last night's post, I'm actually making a pre-sunrise post.  My f-listers up in New England have absurdly early sunrises this time of year; however, here in Asheville it will occur around 6:30, and right now there is just the barest hint of light in the east, and the birds, oh the birds!  At the moment they are going to TOWN in the bamboo trees that line the creek beside my house (sounds quaint but it's right in the middle of a city neighborhood).  This is one perk of waking up ungodly early...I love listening to them.

Last night I was unable to trick my mind or body into thinking that 10:00 was a normal bedtime, and I so lay awake until around 11:30, then woke up for awhile a little after 3:00, and so my butt undoubtedly will be dragging by early afternoon, but right now?  I feel downright chipper.

Onwards.

Hey all, I realize that I totally fail at keeping up with my journal!  It's been a pretty wild week of ups and downs.

Okay, I had better get this proofread and posted before some random power surge knocks me off line (this is why my mood is "rushed").  See y'all later.

Hey all!  I'm feeling a bit scattered at the moment because there are so many things demanding my attention, but it's mostly in a good way.  I caught last night's Opening Day ATL/PHI game from about the 6th inning on, with the delay due to a call from a friend who I needed to catch up with, and then I whacked my left kneecap but good while getting up from the table.  There was actually a dent in it, and for a moment I thought it was broken, but I *immediately* downed a couple of ibuprofen, then spent the rest of the game lying on the bed with an ice pack on it.  Although I've got a bit of a bruise today, to my surprise it's not all that sore and I can move it just fine.  What a relief.

I know lots of folks around Red Sox Nation were disappointed about today's rainout, but really? Putting it off until late tomorrow afternoon means that I'll be able to watch the tail end of the game, and I'm pretty excited about that!  I finally ordered my MLB.tv Premium sub yesterday so am ready to go.

Speaking of inclement weather, y'all New Englanders can take comfort in the fact that you're not having OUR weather...we're supposed to have 2-4" of snow by the end of tomorrow.  April snow isn't unheard of here, or even May snow, for that matter, but it was into the mid-70s yesterday and I was so very much enjoying the cherry trees around town and the violets and dandelions in the yard, and they may not look nearly as pretty if we have the hard freeze that the weather folks are predicting.

Other than that, I'm sitting here awaiting the start of the NCAA Championship Game, and what more can I say other than GO HEELS!!!

No I have not died!

Hey all...I can't believe how long it's been since my last post.  I figured I'd let folks know that I'm still alive and treading water in an attempt to keep up with everything I need to get done right now.  Synopsis since I last posted:

I blew off my Thursday class this past week and will not be continuing for the next round of classes either.  It just wasn't a good fit, and a part of me (actually a big part of me) felt like the things being taught were either bullshit or were not what I was looking for right now.  I'd rather concentrate on my Monday class (which I love) and start looking for another group and/or activity to keep me socializing after that class ends in four weeks.

Other than that I'm mainly trying to accomplish necessary tasks.  Got my tax prep done and just need to get the stuff to the accountant by way of my mom.  I'm supposed to drive down there tomorrow, but the weather forecast is calling for enough snow to keep sane Southern drivers off the road, so we'll see.  It can certainly wait a week, and I could use the extra time to get stuff done, so I'm sort of hoping...

This evening I've done most of my homework for Monday (this week's topic is the economic impact of racism), and also did three weeks' worth of laundry.  Are you tired yet?  I sure am!  This type of pace is why I've been sorely lacking in LJ activities lately.  Hell, I haven't even had much time to follow baseball, not the way I want to, anyway.  Things should let up a bit by Tuesday.  I hope so, anyway.

:::waves cheerfully and heads back to the bedroom to continue homework:::

Not enough hours...

I swear...sometimes I wish there were 36 hours in a day so I could get everything done and still get adequate sleep!  Today after work I ran an errand, talked to my mom for awhile, ate dinner while making the quick rounds of several essential websites, browned up some ground beef, prepped for my therapy appointment tomorrow, did about half of my dishes, and here I am.  Wiped out.  And it's bedtime.  I think I'll have a couple of scoops of ice cream and at least look at my accumulated LJ comments and PMs, but y'all need to be advised that I probably won't get to many (if any) tonight.  Hell, now that I know I can watch *OUR BOYS* (happydancehappydancehappydance) on MLBN tomorrow night, I'll be lucky if I get to any tomorrow night either.  And I have a class on Thursday (need to do a little prep work there too).  And I need to start working on my taxes after work Friday.  And I need to do a shitload of homework for my Monday class (along with laundry) over the weekend, as well as go to my mom's on Sunday to drop off my tax stuff so she can take it to the family accountant.  And somewhere in there I've got to make time for baseball, because how could I not?  And I want to get in on the "5 things" meme, and as I asked[info]jennyagain to give me a list and she was so kind as to give me a really good one, I do plan to try my hand at that this weekend in my vast spare time.  Unfortunately, there's not much vast spare time to be had right now.  So once again...I'm not ignoring my LJ friends -- I'll get to all of this as soon as I can.

:::whew:::

Hey all...this is just a quickie to let folks know I arrived home from The Carolina Rampage around 2:00.  Had a great time...more on that later when I'm a little more awake.  I unpacked and ate a late lunch, and have been reading my f-list (lots of fun posts there).  I have some food prep to do this evening, as I need to pack both lunch and dinner tomorrow thanks to a class I'm taking that starts tomorrow night and meets right after work.  I also need to get some paperwork together for the class.  But first...I MUST take a nap.  For some reason I have a lot of trouble sleeping when I'm not in my own bed, and I don't think I got 4 hours total the entire weekend, so I'm pretty incoherent.  So...I'll be back later to finish talking about the trip to Charlotte.   :D

(not so fast...old college friend called...we had a great albeit brief catch-up session, and now I really am going to take a nap!)

Hey all, I'm just driving by here.  Back tightened up on me while stretching this morning.  This was not helped by a "fitness assessment" that I did at work today.  Our wellness director is quite the zealot when it comes to measuring employees' progress towards all fitness all the time, and even though I opted out of several components of the test, I'm still pretty sore.  I'm also tired, thus I'll be getting to bed early-ish again in hopes of being well rested for the big Carolina Rampage this weekend!  Yes indeed, the time has come for me to make the relatively brief (2-1/2 hours) drive to Charlotte to meet up with[info]lovinbecks19 and[info]new_world_smurf and see what kind of mischief we can get into.  Tee hee!  So...although I plan to jump on line for a bit tomorrow, if I'm strangely absent between now and Sunday, that's why.

Happy weekend early!   :D
